Alien: Romulus promises to be an exciting next step in the popular franchise, yet one creature update simultaneously harkens back to the series' roots while correcting its previous mistakes. Directed by Evil Dead and Don't Breathe's Fede Álvarez, the movie already has impressive horror credentials. Yet with both of these previous releases, the 46-year-old Uruguayan director eschewed some of the industry's go-to techniques – a theme that seems to be repeating with Alien: Romulus, perhaps to good effect.
