Civil War's Record Breaking Box Office Is A Great Sign For A24 After Risky Shift

A24’s newest release, Alex Garland’s Civil War, fits perfectly into the production company’s goal to make more commercial films. In its first weekend, Civil War has beat A24’s opening weekend record, with a $25.7 million box office. The record was six years old, and previously held by Ari Aster’s Hereditary. In part thanks to Kirsten Dunst's shining performance in Civil War, it is predicted to remain high in the rankings. Though the newer release Abigail could give it a run for the top spot, the frenzy around Garland’s project is unlikely to die down.
