Traveling around with a rental car in the left-hand driving system?

Hi, this is a South Korean national planning to trip New Zealand for about 10 days only in the South Island. It's been about 10 years for me driving in the right-handed driving country including US and South Korea, but I've never had a chance to drive in the reversed system.

Is it safer I just take inter-city bus or transportation instead of renting a car ? If it's easily adjustable then I might just go with it.
