Should I leave my dog with my mom when I move out?

My dog has been my companion since he was a puppy. I would take him everywhere with me and always planned on moving with him. He’s 6 years old now and I’m finally able to move out, but I got a new job where I work 8 hours a day and do overtime pretty often. It’s also incredibly difficult to find a place that accepts dogs and is a good distance from my workplace.

My mom offered to keep my dog since she’s retired and can spend the entire day with him. I won’t live far so I could visit a few times a month.

We have moved a few times so I don’t think he will be overly stressed about the move itself. My only concern is that being away from me will make him sad because I’m the one that walks him, feeds him, plays with him, and he doesn’t leave my side when I am home. Of course my mom would take over the responsibilities if she stays with him.
