Seeking advice on travelling to Western US

I'm planning a trip to Western US next April/May with my wife and MIL. We are deciding between travelling to a city (LA/SF/LV) and booking day trips vs booking a multicity tour such as this 10 day tour.

We are interested in visiting the popular spots such as Yosemite, death valley etc. Would appreciate any advice from fellow travellers who had done such trips before. Thanks

P.S. we don't travel so renting a car will not be an option.
