Booking.com study reveals 48% of Americans see sustainable travel as important. Insights from 31,000 travelers in 34 countries.

Booking.com has unveiled fresh research today, synthesizing viewpoints from over 31,000 travelers in 34 different countries and territories. This new study dives into the prevailing consumer sentiments, preferences, and influences regarding sustainable travel, disclosing the following insights:

  • Nearly half (48%) of Americans acknowledge the importance of sustainable travel, yet it remains a secondary concern when organizing or booking trips.
  • About one-fourth (26%) believe the environmental damage already inflicted is beyond repair, feeling their individual choices will not alter this outcome. Meanwhile, another 25% of respondents are skeptical about the severity of climate change, deeming it exaggerated.
  • A significant portion (32%) sees governmental action as crucial for mitigating the economic repercussions of travel, whereas 42% believe travel service providers are essential for addressing environmental impacts.

These findings highlight a pressing need for more cooperative efforts to address the emerging consumer sentiment of helplessness and to keep sustainable travel high on the industry’s agenda.
