Unique/unusual pet ideas?

We are thinking of getting a tank dwelling pet, ideally one that would be suitable for a 18" x 18" x 18" tank as that's what we have space for. We were thinking of getting a pair of dart frogs (leucs), and I saw on r/dartfrogs someone mention pet semi-terrestrial crabs (specifically vampire crabs).

That got me thinking, what other 'unusual' pets are there that folks may recommend/enjoy keeping?

I have experience with some of standard pet herps (frogs, toads, geckos, beardies), but most of those require more space.
