I have always enjoyed creating my own itineraries and booking flights, transit and accommodation directly with the provider. This has provided many interesting and very cost-efficient adventures over the years. I really enjoy the hunt, too.
I don't know if it's inflation or ongoing pent-up travel demand but my system doesn't seem to work as well as it used to and it makes me wonder if I'd be better off (financially mainly) booking a package instead. I never ever use Expedia, Travelzoo, Groupon, Costco etc but maybe if I'm doing it all wrong for modern times.
I also prefer to book about 2 months prior to travel so maybe my timing doesn't work anymore.
Has anyone tried it both ways to offer some comparison?
