Traveling internationally, but waiting for an important US phone call

I’m traveling to South America while simultaneously interviewing for a new job. I am expecting the offer to come through while I’m away. It’s a long story, but I didn’t want to tell the new job that I’ll be away.

I don’t have a way to receive international calls on my phone (which has a non major phone carrier).

I’m thinking of doing one of two things, I’m just wondering if either will work or is there a better alternative.

  1. Forwarding all calls to my google voice and then calling them from my google voice number

  2. Having my husband check my voicemail a few times a day (he’s not traveling with me), him texting me if they call, and me returning the call on my Google voice.

I’m not looking to buying a SIM card there b/c I think I’m basically staying at the hotel the entire length of my stay and will have wifi the whole time. Thanks!
