Today, Royal Caribbean Group unveiled its yearly Seastainability Report, detailing key achievements in its journey to provide top-tier vacation experiences responsibly. Fueled by its SEA the Future campaign, the company has fortified its dedication to environmental sustainability, community empowerment, and innovation acceleration.

Throughout 2023, Royal Caribbean Group made notable strides towards its net-zero ambition, such as surpassing half of its carbon intensity reduction goal, conducting successful biofuel tests across Europe, and introducing the maritime sector’s inaugural waste-to-energy system onboard one of its ships.

In its inaugural Community Impact Report, Royal Caribbean Group delves into its extensive efforts throughout 2023 to engage communities, uphold its cultural values, and bolster economic resilience in the areas it frequents. The report underscores the company’s commitment to sustainability and a brighter future, outlining key objectives and strategies. Highlighted accomplishments detailed in the report comprise:

Environmental Sustainability:

  • Achieved a 6.8% reduction in carbon intensity, marking significant progress toward its double-digit reduction target.
  • Expanded energy sources post-successful biofuel trials, demonstrating the viability of alternative fuels without engine modifications or operational impacts.
  • Enhanced local sourcing globally, reducing travel distances by 37% and curbing Scope 3 emissions in specific regions.
  • Implemented Shellbank, an innovative genetic technology safeguarding marine species, especially critically endangered sea turtles, by identifying priority conservation areas and deterring illegal harvesting.

Community Empowerment:

  • Launched the Artist Discovery Program on Royal Caribbean International, showcasing emerging Caribbean artists aboard the Icon of the Seas.
  • Developed tailored training for Bahamian entrepreneurs under the Royal Caribbean Kickstarter Programme, fostering local tourism-related businesses.
